The GammaSpec User Interface

The GammaSpec User Interface is also referred to as the “Main Window”. There is only one editable control on the Main Window. The user can set the maximum number of CPU's that GammaSpec can use by typing a number into the CPU's textbox. All the other text and list boxes are for information only.
Main Window Features
- Working Directory: This is used for setting the Working Directory. Usually, the survey database, processing control files and user log files will all reside in the Working Directory.
- Menu Bar: This is used for opening databases, saving files, setting control parameters, launching processes and tools, and seeking help. Subsequent sections in this User Guide will describe the functions of the menu items.
- Database: This group of items gives information on the currently open database.
- Control Files: These items display the names of any control files currently in use. The check boxes indicate whether the required aliases and parameters for processing have been set.
- Progress: The progress bar shows the progress of the currently executing task. The check boxes indicate whether a particular task has been executed during this session.
- Processing: The speed of processing can be adjusted using the slider control. Processing can also be paused, resumed or cancelled. The user can set the maximum number of CPU's that GammaSpec may use in the CPU's text box. The number must be between 1 and one less than the number of CPU's that the computer has. That is, at least one CPU is always reserved for other computer work. Set the number of CPU's to 1 if you wish to slow down the processing and pause at a particular line.
- Messages: This list box displays messages to the user on processing progress, warnings or errors.
- Chart: Gives a visual of the data during processing. Hovering the mouse over the chart will display the data values being charted.
- Output: Displays output from the current process.
