Installation and Licensing
Hardware and Software Requirements
- GammaSpec is a .Net application that runs under Microsoft Windows. You should first download and install .Net 8 SDK if it is not already installed on your computer. GammaSpec was developed on Windows 10, and tested on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. A monitor display resolution of at least 1980x1020 is recommended. If you are working on a small screen, you may have to reduce the scaling on your screen (MS Settings|Display). You will also have a better user experience if you have a good quality GPU installed, as GammaSpec uses DirectX for rendering.
Installation
- Download the GammaSpec installation file from www.gammaspec.com.au.
- Execute the installation file and follow the instructions to install. It is recommended that you install the program in "C:\GammaSpec", and not in the "Program Files (x86)" folder, as spaces in file paths can cause GammaSpec difficulties. Use the underscore ("_") rather than spaces in file paths.
- Give yourself write access to the “logs” sub-directory of the install directory.
- Download the demonstration datasets file and execute the file to install. The default install location is the “demo_data” sub-directory of the install directory. The demonstration datasets take up about 1.7 Gb of storage, and you may wish to install them elsewhere. But be aware that some of the paths in the demonstration control files are "hard-wired" to the default installation directory on the C: drive. Give yourself write access to the demonstration datasets directory.
Licensing
GammaSpec is currently free – it comes with a Free License automatically installed. No registration is required – simply install and run the program.
Important Note: By design, GammaSpec will not run in a debugger or in a remote session.
